DRAPERIES

- is a general word referring to cloths or textiles (Old French draperie, from Late Latin drappus). It may refer to cloth used for decorative purposes – such as around windows – or to the trade of retailing cloth, originally mostly for clothing, formerly conducted by drapers.

a)    Overdrapes – Stationary draperies used on either side of the window with other window treatments between them.
:  one of a pair of draperies especially of heavy fabric that are usually hung over sheer curtains and are primarily for decoration

Draw draperies – pleated panels that can be pulled across the window. Uses a traverse rod, master carrier, and pull cords. They operate or draw by opening and closing with a cord by hand. Generally hung straight to the floor and tied back

OTHER SAMPLES:

Arched Valance: A valance treatment that is arched along the lower edge.
Austrian Shade: A fabric window covering with soft draping scallops which run the length of the shade. They move up and down by a series of cords threaded through rings.

Balloon Shades: Fabric shades with deep inverted pleats that fall into airy, rounded poufs at the bottom.

Bishop's Sleeve Curtains: Extra long curtain panels that are cinched up gathered up and over the cinched area.

Box Pleats: Deep, inverted, tailored pleats which are flat on the right side of the drapery to create a classical boxy look.
Butterfly Pleats : A pleat with two, rather than three, folds to distinguish it from the basic pinch pleat.

Cafe Curtains: A window treatment that covers only the bottom half of a window. A cafe rod is most often hung at the halfway point of the window, at sash level.

Cascades: Side panels, usually pleated, which flank swags. They can be long or short.

CURTAINS

A hanging piece of fabric used to shut out the light from a window, adorn a room, increase privacy, etc. They are generally shirred or smocked or have headings attached to rods. They can also be pleated and hung on a rod with the use of hooks. Curtains are usually a term for informal window treatments such as café curtains.

TIERS
Tier curtains are one of the most basic kinds of curtains. A tier curtain is hung in the middle of the window opening and falls to the window sill. A top treatment is usually added to complete the look. Within this simple definition, just about any combination of half-length curtain with or without top treatment can be called tier curtains.Tier curtains are often called cafe curtains, or tier cafe curtains.

STRETCH OR SASH
Sometimes known as brise-bise,French term roughly translated as “wind screen”. Curtain is gathered and hung with two rods. It is usually installed in casement windows or French Doors.

HOURGLASS CURTAIN
A flowing sheer curtain covering the glass on a door can be a nuisance as it tends to get caught when the door is used. Adding a second rod at the lower edge solves this problem but when it is tied in the centre with a bow of ribbon you can create a focal point from an ordinary door.

TIE BACK CURTAIN
A curtain tie-back is a decorative window treatment which accompanies a cloth curtain. Within the field of interior decoration, tie-backs made of fabric are classified as a kind of "soft furnishing" (along with other fabric-based décor such as pillows, valances, towels, blankets, mattresses, bed skirts, bedspreads, jabots, and shower and window curtains) while those made out of wood, metal, or glass are considered "window hardware" (along with curtain rods, cornices, latches, hinges, push bars, and handles).

ROD POCKET CURTAINS
Also known as tailored or pole top curtains, rod pocket curtains are the most basic curtain style with a sewn-in rod pocket at the top of each curtain panel. Rod pocket curtains work well layered under a valance, or with a sheer or shade underneath. They can be hung directly on a decorative or utility rod, or attached with clip-rings for an updated look and ease of movement at your window.
UNDER CURTAINS
These are curtains that hang behind the main curtains.

FABRIC SHADES

- are generally drawn from the bottom

ROMAN SHADES
Roman Shades- fabric-covered shades of horizontal panels with wooden slabs inserted horizontally at intervals down its entire length. Raised and lowered via pull cord as with other blinds, it gathers soft folds as it does so. Newer variations include lighter fabrics and pleats without wooden slats, so the folds drape more dramatically when the shade is raised.

AUSTRIAN SHADES
curtains that are pulled up like ordinary shades, but with cords rather than by means of a roller. The vertical shirring transforms the tailored folds of the Roman shade into soft draping scallops. It is generally made of sheer or lightwight fabrics.

BALLOON SHADES
made of soft fabric, with cords placed vertically along the shade to hold the fabric in place. It has straight sides and a straight lower hem. When the cord is pulled to raise it, deep inverted pleats cause the shade to billow out into puffs along the bottom edge.

CURTAIN HARDWARE: RODS

Flat Curtain Rods – these are adjustable rods, and usually hung by brackets to the wall or the window frame. It is drawn manually and curtains may be shirred onto the rod or hung by hooks.

Single flat curtain rods

Double flat rods –designed for double curtain treatments. The design of the outside rod is longer than the inside rod

Corner and Bay window rods –these are two or three-piece adjustable rods, hinged for use on corner-meeting windows and angled bays.

Cafe rods – a small, round decorative rod which comes in white, brass, or woodgrain finish, used to mount cafe curtains that do not have a rod pocket. It is meant to be seen and adds an additional decorative touch to the curtain treatment.

Wood poles – are rods mainly used for decorative purposes. The curtains are attached with the use of rings, but other top treatments may be used provided that the rod is not entirely covered.

Sash rods – a small rod, either decorative or plain, usually mounted inside a window frame on the sash

Tension rods – rods which stay in place inside the window frame through the spring tension

Custom – bent

Traverse rod – adjustable drapery rods that allows the opening and closing of the window treatment by means of a cord and pulley
